When Hurricane Irma churned over the Caribbean,  the storm largely bypassed Haiti, taking a more northerly course that devastated Puerto Rico. Hence it did not directly affect the village of La Vallee, whose 400 inhabitants have no roads and no electrical grid for lighting. Hurricane Maria came close to Hispaniola -- the island where the Dominican Republic and Haiti are located -- but thankfully, southern Haiti did not take a direct hit. This doesn’t mean that Haiti was not affected, it just means that it did not face the worst of Maria.  La Vallee is the location of the street lighting project, which our Club was initiated during in the last Rotary year.  Rotary International is doing all it can to help the people in Puerto Rico and other Caribbean islands to recover and our club will lend some support, as well.  Meanwhile, our lighting project is moving forward under the direction of club member Rob Parker.
